Age: 1.92 years
Weight: 40.2 lbs.
Current Status: Applications Pending
Color: Black & White
Eye Color: Blue
Weight: 43 lbs
Large Dog Friendly: Yes
Small Dog Friendly: Likely yes-he hasn't been around any small dogs with us but has been great with any dog his size or bigger
Cat Friendly: Probably not
Crate Trained: Mostly-takes 15-30 minutes to settle down, and periodically throughout the day whines & scratches at the crate. Might be problematic in an apartment with close neighbors.
Energy Level: Medium-High
Reaction to New People: Friendly & sweet-loves to lick you
Kid Friendly: Yes, he previously lived with a 10-year-old and a 12-year-old
Training: Knows sit, shake, lay down, and walks pretty well on a leash.
Grooming Needs: Axel has a short husky coat which will require regular thorough brushing. You should aim for once a week or so, and more when he is blowing his coat, typically twice a year.
Fence: He would do fine with a fenced yard or a tie-out.
Solo or Siblings: Axel would love to have a sibling to play with, but would also be fine as an only dog with an active, playful family.
From the Foster: Axel was surrendered to AAHMN because his family's older dog was ultimately unable to share the house with him. His family was incredibly sad to give him up but realized that Axel would have a much easier time finding a new home than their older dog. It is plain to see that he was very much loved and cared for, because he is a playful, sweet boy who will make an amazing addition to a very lucky family!
He is a small guy, and his previous family was told that he is a Pomsky (but he looks and acts all husky). He loves to go on walks and only really pulls if he sees a squirrel or bunny. He saw a loose cat on a walk once and lunged for it with all of his might, which makes us think he would not do well in a home with cats. Axel also makes a GREAT running buddy (the best that his foster mom has had). He does an excellent job matching your pace and does well being redirected when he gets distracted by something. When not on walks or runs Axel likes to play with his fur siblings or foster parents, or find a toy to amuse himself with.
Axel is currently living with a fur sister and fur brother, and he LOVES playing with them! He is younger than they are so he sometimes wants to play longer than they do, but he has been respectful of when they've had enough play time. He would love to have a fur sibling in his forever home, but would also be great as an only dog with a playful, active family. If you are looking for a sweet boy who can keep up with your active lifestyle and also shower you with love and kisses then Axel would be the perfect addition to your family. He can't wait to meet you!
