Reaction to New People: Nikon came in from a breeder release, right now he is shy when meeting new people
Kid Friendly: Yes (ages 7 and older), younger children unknown
Training: Knows name and command "come"
Grooming Needs: He loves to be combed! Nikon has a standard husky coat which will require frequent thorough brushing. You should aim for at least once a week, and more when he is blowing his coat, typically twice a year.
Fence: Foster family has a fence; however, with his low energy level we don't feel it is required. Due to his past he is a flight risk, so extra measure would need to be taken to ensure his safety in a home without a fence.
Solo or Siblings: Nikon benefits from having other dogs in the home to learn from. It will be a requirement that he goes to a forever home with another dog.
From the Foster: Nikon is a gentle, loving 7 year old male husky. He arrived into foster care from a breeder environment, extremely scared and timid. This sweet boy did not know how to enter/exit a vehicle; had not entered a house before; was uncomfortable with human interaction and touch; frightened of all noises; and had physical scared outbursts when being on a walk and having a vehicle pass by. He has made GREAT strides in just 2 weeks of being in foster care. Nikon enters/exits the foster home doorways without a hitch. He absolutely LOVES to be massaged on his shoulder and hip joints! He enjoys being brushed and scratched behind the ears and along the neckline. Nikon still flinches occasionally when it is time to be leashed to go outside; however, has gained human trust greatly! He is fantastic with the 3 foster home human children. When on walks on roads, he still scares with large vehicles such as UPS trucks and semis. He is becoming increasingly tolerant of regular sized vehicles. Nikon does excellent on walks on trails and is so far polite with other dogs that pass by with zero aggression. He is working on heeling while walking and the command "leave it, for he is interested in small moving targets such as squirrels and birds (he does have a prey drive!). With that said, homes with cats, bunnies, birds, etc. are not recommended. Nikon soundly sleeps through the night without being in the kennel. He does follow the resident dog, so a home with other dogs to show him the way is required. Nikon is not yet house trained; he does however stay dry throughout the night. He arrived with some facial trauma of the mouth and teeth. A person walking by would never notice, but if pointed out, there is a missing portion of Nikon's upper lip. Nikon's physical impairment does not stop him from eating and functioning normally. Nikon is extremely smart and resilient to have made such amazing advances thus far in foster care. He is SUPER sweet and will make a fantastic companion to whomever is lucky enough to adopt this lovable boy.
