Kid Friendly: Riggins plays rough & doesn't have great body awareness so older kids (13+) who are dog savvy would be best.

Training: Knows sit, shake, speak, down, kennel up, come, and leave it; working on stay

Grooming Needs: Riggins has a standard husky coat which will require regular thorough brushing. You should aim for once a week or so, and more when he is blowing his coat, typically twice a year.

Fence: He would do fine with a fenced yard or a tie-out.

Solo or Siblings: Riggins would be great as an only dog or with a similar-sized sibling.

From the Foster: Riggins came to AAHMN after animal control picked him up from a home where he wasn't being properly cared for. Despite this, he is super sweet and friendly and is happiest when he can be near you, getting pets and scratches and all the love you can give him. Riggins would love to be an only dog in his new family or have a sibling who won't mind him hogging his family's attention. He is currently living with two foster siblings, one male and one female, and has gotten along wonderfully with both of them. Like most huskies, he loves to go on walks and runs but is then content to rest and relax afterward, or amuse himself with a toy (especially rubber balls, he loves those!)

Riggins is a smart boy who is very food motivated and has done very well so far with his training. He responds well to a confident leader, so a family that can keep him mentally challenged & continue his training would be ideal. If you are looking for a dog to create a strong, lifelong bond with then Riggins would be perfect for you. He can't wait to meet you!

Medical: Riggins had seizures on Nov 25 and Dec 13, 2021. Blood tests were all normal. This information should be made aware to any veterinarian he sees in the future so they can avoid giving any medications that may trigger seizure activity. At this point there is no way of knowing what caused the seizure and if he will have any more in his future. He was started on seizure medication (Zonisamide) after the second seizure. This is possibly a medication he will need to take for life. Riggins' medication costs about $40/month through the vet clinic but can likely be found cheaper with a prescription discount (like Good RX) at a pharmacy like Costco or CVS.
