SPECIAL NEEDS: Abilene tested positive for heartworm in June 2022. She completed the treatment injections in September and her adoptive family will need to keep her from any strenuous activities (like jogging or dog parks) for a few more months while the heartworms continue to die off. She will need to have a heartworm test rechecked in June 2023 to verify all of the heartworms are gone. Abilene will need to stay on monthly heartworm prevention yearround for life.

Reaction to New People: Abilene is a little shy to begin with. Warms up fast. She loves to be around her people. She loves the attention that you give her and rewards you with kisses. Very sweet personality.

Kid Friendly: Yes

Training: Sit, Shake, Other Paw, lay down (tap floor with finger), speak, come. Knows kennel up, but still needs kennel work.

Grooming Needs: Abilene has a standard husky coat which will require frequent brushing.

Fence: Abilene does fine on a tie out. She does well in our fenced yard (4 ft) with supervision.. She will jump baby gates.

Solo or Siblings: Abilene lived with other dogs at previous fosters but was a solo dog for the last several weeks as she went through heart worm treatment. No problems with dogs at previous fosters, but she's fine being a solo dog as well.

From the Foster: Abilene is a very sweet and loving girl who loves her people and is not a typical stubborn husky with an attitude. She rewards you with kisses when you give her belly rubs and pats. She came from a shelter in Texas so she is starting to settle in and realizing that she can be a dog again. She is very food motivated so training has been easier. She loves walks and does well with a little pulling. She is very smart and learns quickly. She is usually quiet but will be vocal during playtime. Abilene makes a good dance partner, loves hide and seek, and hasn't demonstrated any separation anxiety. She does great with a consistent schedule and praise. Abilene is a very sweet girl who will give back all the love she receives and more.
