Cat Friendly: Nyssa seems to have a low prey drive. She has been "cat tested" and would do okay in a house with a cat.
Crate Trained: Yes
Energy Level: Low
Reaction to New People: Nyssa has been working on socializing with new people. She is very shy but is showing more interest and will sometimes come up and sniff new visitors or allow a pet if they're calm and gentle.
Kid Friendly: Nyssa is very timid at this time and would do best in a home with older children.
Training: Nyssa walks great on a leash, she is working on learning down and sit
Grooming Needs: Nyssa has a standard husky coat which will require frequent thorough brushing. You should aim for at least once a week, and more when she is blowing her coat, typically twice a year.
Fence: Nyssa is a flight risk due to her past, therefore a fence will be required for her.
Solo or Siblings: She would do best in a home with other dogs where she can continue to learn what it is like to be a house dog and trust people. It will be a requirement that she goes to a forever home with another dog.
From the Foster: Nyssa (Nee-Sa) is a super sweet girl who came to us from a Missouri breeder release and had no idea what it was like to be a house dog. Her name means new beginnings and that's exactly what she's getting! Every day she is learning and trying something new. She loves getting to play with her foster siblings and has realized toys that squeak are the best! Even though she appears very timid and shy at first, once she warms up she is actually a huge goofball. The volunteers love watching videos of her playing with toys and doing her famous zoomie circles. Nyssa is certainly learning all the perks of being a spoiled dog pretty quickly and has enjoyed attending baseball games, trips to the pet store, hikes, and when she's really good even a pup cup from DQ. Nyssa will require some extra training and patience with her background but she is so sweet and goofy that we hope that she can soon find her forever home!
MEDICAL NOTE: Due to an irregular EKG during her spay surgery Nyssa was scheduled to see a board certified cardiologist. She was diagnosed on 7/31/2020 with a right bundle branch block. It is not possible to determine if this is a birth defect or caused by trauma later in life. It may never change or cause her any issues for the rest of her life. It is, however, information that should be passed on to any veterinarians she may see in the future, especially if she ever has to be anesthetized and should be monitored for changes in her future. A full cardiology report is available to her adoptive family.
Adoption Fee: $250
